The desk design began with three floating drawers but was still too heavy. To create a continuous flow, the drawer fronts curve around the side of the desk, and also act as handles to pull open the drawers. I experimented with a bent panel to replace a couple legs, but soon removed that design element. Finally, I varied the thicknesses of the desktop so it is thicker over the drawers and then gently thins out over the sitting area.
The smooth curved desktop is shaped for the human figure, while maintaining adequate writing/usable surface. The desk is designed so a child could comfortably use it, and yet have enough room to grow into as an adult. In addition, the secret compartment adds the sense of mystery and intrigue that a person of any age desires.
